Here is a short list of things you should have:

•Business doesn't stop when your computer dies. I've had many customers complain to me that their ONE computer is down and they're losing thousands of dollars a day because they can't use their productivity machine. First off, WHO THE HELL RUNS A BUSINESS ON ONE MACHINE?! Get an extra computer... When your main system goes down, you'll be thankful that you have a second system to work on while it's in the shop. Ok, I realize that not everyone can afford to have multiple computers... I mean, they cost like... $600, and let's be honest, not everyone has that kind of... wait a second... DIDN'T YOU JUST TELL ME YOU ARE LOSING THOUSANDS?! How about you invest a little money in a few extra computers for when your main system goes down? Honestly, it's going to happen sooner or later... PLAN ON IT!

•Important Data? Back it up. This can be done online or to an external HD... It could even be a Mirrored Raid, but for the love of God! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE IT, BACK THAT ASSet UP! I personally have a Mirrored RAID setup on my system so that my data is safe in the case of a hard drive crash. This is good, but having an online data backup is even better. Online data backups are a great way to protect youself against Fire, Flood, Surge, and even theft. If your data is lost on your local machine, you can still retrieve the data from your online backup. This is redundant and secure.

•Is that it? Well, sure it's not. To have a successful business, you need countless other things, however, I can't imagine any business lasting without the things I've mentioned above. Seriously, these are two easy steps you can implement to help insure the vitality and success of your business venture. In the end, you'll be glad you did.
