"a necessary component of windows media center did not start properly"
The error would occur if I tried to add folders to media center... and all my media folders were failing to show up in WMC.
I couldn't find anything on google to help me troubleshoot it, but I had just installed Nero 9 the day before.
When I would restart my computer, it would also take a long time to log in and would frequently load a temporary profile.
The problem was resolved by disabling Nero's background service called "Nero BackItUp Scheduler 4.0" which I have no need for anyway.
